A South African man has gone viral after speaking out about a harrowing experience he claims to have had on 1 September 2026, when he was attacked by children celebrating Spring Day in Gauteng.
Moruti Majomane Makgato Machaba shared the video on Facebook from inside a moving car, still visibly shaken and furious about what had happened to him the day before. He had gone to Tembisa to carry out maintenance work, not realising it was the first day of September, when Spring Day celebrations traditionally take place across Gauteng.
He described being drenched with water, struck on his body and hit with bricks by children who were out in the streets. What hurt him most, he said, was not just the physical attack but the humiliation of it all.
Spring Day turns violent in Gauteng
Machaba said he initially thought he was alone in his experience, but after seeing similar incidents circulating online, he realised the problem was widespread. He pointed to footage of an elderly man in Orange Farm being soaked and touched inappropriately by children, calling it deeply degrading. He said:

"It's no longer a water game anymore, now you're killing people."
adding that children had been opening car doors, soaking seats and destroying property with water. He also spoke about kids wetting people's books and belongings.
His message was aimed squarely at parents in Gauteng, whom he accused of laughing off the behaviour as harmless fun. He said the disrespect shown to elders, especially older men who had simply woken up to go to work, was unacceptable and that the consequences of raising undisciplined children would eventually come back to affect the parents themselves.
