A South African content creator has the whole country talking after declaring that slap chips, white bread and a cold Coke are the country's true national dish. The man posted the selfie-style video on 8 September 2026, filmed inside a car with a graphic collage of the iconic trio floating above the screen throughout.

The creator made the case with conviction, arguing that this combination goes beyond race, religion, ethnicity and bank balance. He said:

"It goes beyond race, it goes beyond borders, it goes beyond ethnicity, it goes beyond religion. If you're a South African, you know, and as I'm speaking about it, you can smell and taste this meal."

He even drew a comparison to rugby, the sport often credited with bringing South Africans together, saying this meal does it better. His reasoning was simple: whether you have money or not, the warm chips wrapped in paper and pressed into soft white bread with a sip of Coke are a shared experience that cuts across every divide.

The Facebook user Quintis & Amie Jacobs also made the bold claim that it is one of the few meals acceptable at any hour. He said:
