KWAZULU-NATAL - Democratic Alliance (DA) leader Geordin Hill-Lewis has hit out at the uMkhonto weSizwe (MK) Party during a campaign appearance in the uMngeni Local Municipality, in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands.
Speaking to multiple news outlets on the morning of 12 August 2026, Hill-Lewis was direct in his assessment of the MK Party's political standing. Hill-Lewis, who is also the Mayor of Cape Town, argued that the DA had far greater cause for confidence heading into the Local Government Elections in November 2026.
Hill-Lewis questions MK Party's purpose
Talking to reporters, Hill-Lewis said that there was not a single person who could say what MK even stands for.

"MK should be threatened by us. MK has got nothing to offer the voters," Hill-Lewis told the assembled press.
He went further, questioning the party's organisational competence.
"They bring only chaos. They can't even organise their own internal leadership, never mind organise a municipality or fix a town or a broken city," he said.
Hill-Lewis used the township setting of the media briefing to reinforce his argument, pointing to what he described as visible improvements delivered under DA governance and praising the local DA ward councillor for his work on behalf of residents in the area.
"There's only one party in this province and indeed in this country who genuinely governs for everyone and gets things working for everyone," he said.
