Poet and podcaster Ntsiki Mazwai has stirred up fresh controversy after publicly demanding the arrest of activist Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma, just one day after the March and March leader turned herself in to police.

On 4 September 2026, Mazwai posted a blunt message on her X page: "ARREST JACINTA!!!!!!" The post landed at a particularly charged moment, coming after Ngobese-Zuma walked into a Durban police station on 3 September 2026 to face charges of inciting violence linked to a protest held outside Addington Primary School.

Before handing herself over, Ngobese-Zuma's movement had already sparked serious unrest. Members of March and March descended on the Durban Refugee Reception Centre to confront asylum seekers who had been camping on the pavement outside the building. The situation quickly turned violent, leaving several people injured before police stepped in to disperse the crowd.

When Ntsiki was pressed in the comment section about her reasoning, she pointed to the volatility surrounding the protests and raised concerns about alleged misinformation being spread by the activist. This is not the first time she has taken aim at Ngobese-Zuma. Ntsiki, alongside social commentator Penuel Mlotshwa, had recently been vocal in criticising Ngobese-Zuma's decision to formally align herself with AfriForum, the Afrikaner civil rights organisation, to combine legal and structural resources.

Jacinta Ngobese-Zuma's supporters push back hard

Ngobese-Zuma's loyal supporters were quick to flood the comments section, accusing Ntsiki of riding on Jacinta's name for attention while making clear where their loyalties lie.

"You'll have to go through us first, unfortunately. You touch Jacinta, you touch us, and we're definitely going to retaliate."

"So they must leave the ILLEGAL immigrants and arrest the one marching within the confines of the law?"

Lungilelife added:

"As a mayoral candidate of some unknown party, such comments will jeopardise your chances of ever wearing the mayoral chain. Sisi, stop this hate and stalker tendencies. Jacinta is now living in your mind rent-free."

The post has split opinion sharply, with many of Jacinta's supporters viewing Ntsiki's call as an attack on a woman they believe is fighting for South Africans, while others have backed Ntsiki's concerns about the increasingly volatile nature of the marches. Meanwhile, Ngobese-Zuma has not addressed the criticism directly.
