GAUTENG – Closing arguments in Tiffany Meek’s ongoing bail application have now been concluded, and the 31-year-old’s fate lies in the hands of the magistrate. Meek is charged with murder, crimen injuria, attempting to defeat or obstruct the course of justice, and defeating or obstructing the administration of justice.

The charges stem from the death of her son, Jayden-Lee. The 11-year-old’s body was found on 14 May 2025, a day after he was reported missing. Meek maintains that she is innocent, insisting that someone was trying to frame her for her son’s murder.

What is the latest on her bail application?

Meek returned to the Roodepoort Magistrate’s Court on 28 July 2025, for the closing arguments in the application.

Her lawyer, Noven Naidoo, tried to argue that his client was not a flight risk and would not interfere with the witnesses, as she didn’t know who they were.

Naidoo also said that his client wanted to approach the Directorate for Priority Crime Investigation to ask that they take over the case. Naidoo also tried to paint the State’s defence as not strong enough to warrant denying his client bail.

What was the State’s argument?

The State’s argument focused on the fact that Meek returned to the apartment at the Swazi Place complex in Fleurhof on the morning that Jayden-Lee’s body was found. Meek failed to disclose that she returned to the apartment in her affidavit.

The State alleged that she returned to the apartment to move Jayden-Lee’s body from her flat, adding that he was found shortly after she left.

The matter has now been remanded to 29 August 2025, as the judge will deliberate on whether Meek should be given bail or not.

Speaking to Briefly News about the matter, Dr Shaheda Omar, Clinic Director of The Teddy Bear Foundation, said that the new evidence presented during proceedings incriminated Tiffany, but she couldn't understand why a mother would do that to her own child.

"It’s unthinkable and inconceivable that a mother can inflict that trauma on her own flesh and blood," she said.
