GAUTENG - A Johannesburg taxi driver got a rude awakening on 9 September 2026 when Johannesburg Metropolitan Police Department officers impounded his vehicle.

The driver's vehicle was impounded while he was inside a shop. The taxi had been left parked in the middle of Lillian Ngoyi Street, blocking traffic in one of the city's busiest corridors.

By the time the driver came sprinting out, the vehicle was already in the hands of a metro officer who was driving it away. He now faces a R4,000 fine to get his taxi back.
