Robert Wolk Murder: 3 Accused Appear in Court as State Alleges Workplace Hit

Three men accused of killing Formula Ford champion Robert Wolk appeared in the Kempton Park Magistrate's Court on Monday, where the State alleged his death was a targeted hit ordered from within his own workplace.
Khotso Richard Mashao, Hlanganani Shezi and Muziwethu Mthethwa face charges of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, attempted murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, possession of a firearm, and possession of ammunition. Wolk, 41, was shot dead the previous Wednesday at the intersection of Parklands and Cawood Street in Esther Park.
State alleges hit list of four colleagues
According to News24, State prosecutor Dinao Makwala told the court that Mashao had compiled a hit list targeting four people at his workplace on the day in question, and that Wolk's name appeared on it. Makwala alleged that Mashao hired Shezi and Mthethwa to carry out the killings, and that Wolk was the only person on the list who was present at work that day.
The State contends that Shezi and Mthethwa tracked Wolk from his workplace and followed his vehicle until they deliberately collided with it in Esther Park. When Wolk stepped out to assess the situation, the two men allegedly exited their Volkswagen Jetta and opened fire before taking his cellphone. Makwala told the court:
"The owner of the VW Jetta was shot seven times in the stomach [and] was certified dead."

CCTV footage shown in Court
CCTV footage presented during proceedings reportedly showed Wolk standing on a grass verge next to the road, appearing to speak to his attacker and gesturing before the shooting took place. The gunman was then seen fleeing, after which the accused drove away in a blue Volkswagen Jetta 5 sedan. Investigators later determined that the vehicle had been hijacked on 15 August.
Magistrate Veena Krishna asked the accused whether they objected to a media application brought by several publications seeking permission to photograph and broadcast the proceedings. A decision on the application was reserved pending Shezi and Mthethwa securing legal representation.
The case was postponed to 29 September, when the court is expected to rule on the media application and hear a formal bail application.
