South Africa midfielder Lebogang Phiri has finally spoken out about his decision to reject a highly lucrative offer from Kaizer Chiefs during his time at Brondby IF.

The 30-year-old, who most recently played for French Ligue 2 side EA Guingamp, is currently a free agent after choosing not to renew his contract with the club.

Kaizer Chiefs have signed some free agents this summer, including England-based Ethan Chislett, Flavio Silva, Thabiso Monyane and Paseka Mako.

Phiri, who is back in South Africa, in a recent interview with Andile Ncube on Sport Night Amplified, explained the reason he turned down Chiefs' lucrative deal.

The former Bidvest Wits midfielder claimed he rejected the chance to join the Glamour Boys in the past, and he’s hoping he can fulfil his football dream by joining them this summer.

“I was really hoping to join Kaizer Chiefs. Playing for Kaizer Chiefs was always my goal,” he said.
“In 2017, during my final six months at Brondby, Kaizer Chiefs showed serious interest. They presented a very attractive contract, especially for someone my age returning home. The financial terms were quite generous.
“However, I still had ambitions to play overseas, so I decided to turn down that offer and pursue my career in France instead.”

The South African midfielder's submission about rejecting Kaizer Chiefs earlier gathered different reactions from netizens on social media.
