Benni and Stacey's love story
The couple’s romance began in 2008 when McCarthy was filming a Nike commercial in Edinburgh. They tied the knot on 24 May 2014 in a unique, football-themed wedding ceremony in Stacey’s hometown.

A coaching career on the rise
Following his retirement in 2013, McCarthy pursued UEFA coaching badges before returning to South Africa in 2017 to take charge of Cape Town City, where he delivered the club’s first major silverware, the MTN8. Three years later, he joined AmaZulu and guided them to a historic second-place league finish.
In 2022, his career reached new heights when Erik ten Hag recruited him to join Manchester United’s technical team as a striker’s coach, a role he held until mid-2024.

McCarthy then embraced a new challenge in Nairobi, taking over as head coach of Kenya’s Harambee Stars in early 2025.
Within months, he led the team to their first-ever knockout stage appearance at the African Nations Championship (CHAN), co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
McCarthy speaks on Kenya's World Cup chances
Briefly News previously reported that McCarthy made an honest admission about the hopes of leading Harambee Stars to the 2026 FIFA World Cup, which would be hosted by the United States of America, Canada and Mexico.
The former Cape Town City head coach cited the points gap and early setbacks in the qualifying series as some of the problems.
