Lady Du is a South African Amapiano artist and DJ who has risen to fame in the music industry. She began her music career at age nine but encountered many difficulties and competition in the Mzansi music scene. Lady Du’s breakthrough occurred in 2020 when she worked with several Amapiano stars and released hit songs. She is also a songwriter and has written songs for other artists.
Career
Lady Du was born in 1991 in Vosloorus, Gauteng. She grew up in a musical family, as her father is DJ Choc, a veteran R&B disc jockey, and her uncle is DJ Zan D.
Lady Du started her career as a DJ at age nine and learned how to mix and produce music. She faced many challenges along the way, such as having her car vandalised and her equipment stolen during an audition. She did not give up on her passion and continued to pursue her dream.
She got her first TV job as a guest presenter on KMTV on Soweto TV. She then hosted the lifestyle show Living The Dream. In 2020, she landed her biggest role as the host of the SABC 1 music show Live AMP.
In addition to her TV work, Lady Du has also produced and released her own music. She released her debut single uZuma Yi Star in 2020. She has also collaborated with other Amapiano artists such as Mr JazziQ, Busta 929, DBN Gogo, Kabza De Small, DJ Maphorisa and more. Some of her hit songs include Dakiwe, Umsebenzi Wethu, Siyagroova and Sthokoze. She was also nominated for Best Amapiano Female DJ Act at the South African Amapiano Awards in 2021.
Personal life
Lady Du is not married but she had a boyfriend named Andile Mxakaza, who is an actor and fitness trainer. They started dating in 2019 and often shared their pictures on social media. They broke up in 2022. Lady Du has a daughter named Mia from a previous relationship.
