"I believe her......! Noxolo's surname to me growing up in rural Nqutu was fascinating. I didn't know then that some Xhosas had English-ish/Afrikaans-ish surnames. Always thought she was coloured and always wondered how this Grootboom was pronounced. In English-ish accent or Afrikaans."

In related news, Briefly.co.za reported that Noxolo's last broadcast was so important that even President Cyril Ramaphosa delayed his national address so as not to impose on her time.

Initially, the president's broadcast was scheduled for 7pm on Tuesday, 30 March but this clashed with Grootboom's last appearance on SABC 1 news.

"Please note: Presidential address has moved from 19h00 to 19h30 to allow #SABC viewers to watch veteran newsreader #NoxoloGrootboom’s final bulletin as she retires after 37 years."

Noxolo was moved to tears when she heard that President Cyril Ramaphosa had delayed his address to allow her the opportunity to say goodbye as she retired.
