Former child star James Van Der Beek, best known for his career-defining role as Dawson Leery in the groundbreaking teen drama Dawson's Creek, tragically passed away on Wednesday morning, 11 February 2026, after a years-long battle with colorectal cancer.

As peeps continue to come to terms with the passing of the veteran actor, his best friend and the Fresh Prince of Bel Air actor, Alfonso Ribeiro, shared a picture of the actor’s final moments on his deathbed.

On Thursday, 12 February 2026, Alfonso Ribeiro shared his last moment with James Van Der Beek before he passed away. In the caption, Ribeiro said he made James Van Der Beek laugh one last time before he passed away. The post was captioned:

“This was taken by @vanderkimberly just a few minutes before I said my last goodbye. My last moment was making him laugh one last time. I really miss him already.”
