Hollywood actor Richard T. Jones has fallen head over heels for South Africa, revealing that he and his wife are now seriously planning to make the country their permanent home. Jones, best known for his role as Sergeant Wade Grey in The Rookie, made his debut at Comic Con Africa on Friday, 25 September 2026.
The pop culture and gaming festival drew thousands of fans to Johannesburg, with Saturday's tickets selling out completely. His appearance placed him alongside fellow stars including voice actors from Rick and Morty, X-Men '97, and God of War's Christopher Judge.
A career spanning three decades
Jones brings with him a résumé built over 30 years in Hollywood, with notable stints in Judging Amy, Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles, Hawaii Five-O, and Narcos, among others. Despite his long career in the entertainment industry, it is South Africa that appears to have left the deepest impression on him.

Speaking to media at Comic Con Africa, he described the country as "magnificent," adding that its people are "welcoming in a way that feels like family."
'We're definitely going to end up here'
Jones did not hold back when sharing just how serious he and his wife are about relocating. The couple has developed a particular fondness for Johannesburg, Cape Town, and Hermanus. He said with a laugh:
"I love South Africa. South Africa is probably a place that me and my wife are considering retiring. Not considering, she's like, 'we're moving this up'.We love everything about everything. We're definitely going to end up here."
When asked what sets South Africa apart, Jones pointed to its people without hesitation. He said:
"Countries are really known by their people. One thing about South Africa, the people just love not only each other, but they love their country. Every time I get off a plane here, I'm welcomed like people have known me for years. It's amazing."
On the topic of sport, Jones admitted he never took to rugby but has recently discovered a love for football. He singled out Real Madrid as his team of choice and credited the 2026 World Cup with helping him better understand the game.
Jones also opened up about his craft, describing acting as a deeply internal process. "You're always trying to find a place in you that can connect to the character, or a place you've seen in other people. It's introspective. You nitpick at yourself, but you also embrace what the writer is trying to bring across. It takes focus and intentionality."
For the actor, Comic Con Africa was less about the celebrity lineup and more about the human connection.
"It's reassuring to know that every time I come here, I feel at home. That's why we're planning to make this our home for good."

Amapiano vocalist Kammu Dee shared a candid message on his Instagram stories hinting that he is stepping away from music.
The hitmaker named the upcoming Scorpion Kings Live concert as what he believes will be his final stage performance.
