A viral X post claiming to rank Africa's wealthiest entertainers in 2026 has set social media alight, with users either questioning the figures or offering entirely different lists of their own.
The post, shared by X account @Mrdissector on 27 September 2026 and attributed to Forbes, named South African actress Charlize Theron the richest African in entertainment with an estimated net worth of $300 million. Senegalese music legend Youssou N'Dour came in second at $145 million, followed by late South African author Wilbur Smith at $140 million. Comedian Trevor Noah rounded out the top four at $100 million.
Who made the richest African entertainers list?
The full ranking placed Senegalese content creator Khaby Lame fifth at $80 million, while South African DJ Black Coffee came in sixth at $60 million. Rock band Seether represented the country at seventh with $35 million, and Grammy-winning singer Tyla landed eighth as the richest female musician at $15 million. Music producer DJ Maphorisa came ninth at $5 million, with dancer Kamo Mphela rounding out the top 10 at $1 million.

The post racked up over 28,000 views, but it was the replies that really got things going. The original post's claim of a Forbes source has not been independently verified, and the figures across both lists vary significantly, leaving followers to decide which version of events they find more believable.
Mzansi pushes back on the rankings
User @ieatdumbbitches fired back with a completely different list, placing Youssou N'Dour at the top at $145 million, followed by Davido at $100 million and Black Coffee at $84 million. Her list also featured Akon, D'banj, Wizkid, 2Baba, Burna Boy, Steve Hofmeyr, and Sarkodie, with no South African actress in sight.
