MacG Apologises to Elizabeth Tsontso's Sister on Podcast and Chill Over Hurtful Comments

MacG has offered a public apology to the family of Elizabeth Tsontso during a tense Podcast and Chill sit-down, after comments made on the show about the missing woman caused widespread outrage. The interview brought Tsontso's sister face-to-face with the hosts, turning into one of the most emotionally charged episodes the podcast has seen.

What MacG and Sol Said That Caused Uproar

Tsontso had gone missing on 9 September 2026 after leaving her Rhodesfield, Kempton Park home for a morning jog and not returning. During a previous episode recorded around that time, co-host Mukwevho reportedly suggested she could have "kept on running," while Sol Phenduka followed up with a quip about her racing number, drawing laughter in the studio. The comments went viral and sparked massive public backlash, partly because the photo circulating during the missing person alert was taken at a marathon, which is why she was wearing a race bib. Tsontso was later found dead.

Facing her family directly, MacG said, "I humbly, humbly apologize. That was not our intention," adding that he had already conveyed this sentiment to the sister during a private meeting before the broadcast.

'Everything Was Very Performative'

MacG also asked whether the funeral was well attended and whether organisations like Women for Change showed up. Tsontso's sister confirmed there were many people present, including several government ministers, but her tone made it clear she was not impressed. "My family just thought, you know, the ANC's trying to campaign for votes and stuff, which I felt like a lot of the things was very performative," she said.

She also pointed out the contradiction of politicians showing solidarity in public while the President had still not allocated funds to the victim's family, even after femicide was acknowledged as a national crisis. She did confirm that Discovery had sent out a donation link on behalf of Tsontso's daughter's welfare.

MacG also asked whether Dineo Ranaka, who had been outspoken about Sol Phenduka's comments, attended the funeral.
