Simz was married to actor and DJ Dumi Masilela, best known for his role on Rhythm City, who was fatally shot during a hijacking in Thembisa on 3 August 2017. His death shook South Africa, and the public mourning that followed placed Simz under an uncomfortable spotlight for years.

Backlash after moving on

Three years after Dumi's passing, Simz entered a new relationship, a decision that drew sharp criticism from some corners of the public. Speaking openly on the podcast, she recalled the wave of judgement that came her way.

"They were like she moved on too quickly. She did this, she did that," she said, before turning the question back on her critics. "So what's the right amount of time? There's no right amount of time."

She added that grief and readiness are deeply personal, and that faith plays a role in knowing when the moment is right. "It's really about how comfortable you are, and you need to pray about it, right? And God will make it happen at the right time. The right time could be five months even."

Simz also noted that nearly 10 years have passed since Dumi's death, and while she has discussed him in countless interviews over the years, she feels it is now time to release that chapter. "I feel like I have spoken about him so many times and in so many interviews, and it's time. It's time to let it go," she said.
