A man placed an order for a brand-new laptop from Amazon but was taken aback when he received two boxes of Weetabix tightly taped together instead.

Man treats himself to R11k laptop

Adam Yearsley, a Urmston, Greater Manchester resident, had intended to treat himself to a £500 (R11 000) HP laptop and suspected that he had fallen victim to a scam.

Expressing its regret, Amazon stated that it had successfully resolved the issue and offered its apologies to the 40-year-old, BBC reported.

"We've contacted the customer directly, apologised and refunded in full," Amazon said in a statement.

Amazon also confirmed that a full refund had been issued to him. In response to the situation, Yearsley decided to reorder the laptop from a different seller.

He said:

"I've never had an issue before but honestly when I got the parcel I did think this feels a bit light to be a laptop."

Reflecting on the incident, he shared his initial surprise upon receiving the package, thinking it felt unusually light for a laptop.

According to Metro.co.uk, he initially reasoned that perhaps laptops had become lighter these days, given his trust in the company.

"I thought, well, I trust this company, maybe laptops are more lightweight nowadays."

However, upon removing the cardboard packaging, he was dumbfounded to discover Weetabix instead.

Although he briefly considered the possibility of his partner ordering it for diet purposes, he remembered that he had completed all the necessary security checks with the delivery driver.

Once Yearsley received his refund, he managed to maintain a lighthearted perspective on the whole ordeal.

He mentioned that his colleagues at work had found amusement in the situation.

"People in work have been having a laugh with me", he said.

In fact, one of the residents he cares for even jokingly claimed to have stayed healthy by consuming copious amounts of Weetabix.
