An American woman has captured the attention of Mzansi after revealing that she spends R84,307.61 each month while living in South Africa.

The US woman opened up about what brought her to the country and how she has embraced life here.

In the video, which was shared by @webnationafrica on TikTok, the woman named Ashley explained that she took a one-year sabbatical from her career in marketing, tech, and economic development industries, which she described as “high-stress environments.”

While she knew she wanted to return to work eventually, Ashley was determined not to do it in the same way she had before.

Her goal was to live on the African continent, preferably in a metropolitan city that offered both cultural richness and some of the comforts she was accustomed to from living in the US her entire life.

“I wanted to be surrounded by culture in a country that fosters and still has a very strong amount of culture woven into its daily practices,” she said.

Ashley revealed that she initially lived in Johannesburg for two and a half years before relocating to Cape Town, where she now resides. Before arriving in South Africa, she spent time in Tanzania and admitted she was pleasantly surprised by what she found here.

“I fell in love with South Africa instantly. It reminded me of many cities in the USA, so it felt like home,” she said.

She added that she spends $4750 ( R84,307.61) per month. Her travels have also taken her to Durban, where she adored the beaches, and she praised the country’s infrastructure, luxury living, real estate, and warm people.

The American expat now documents her experiences on her YouTube channel, sharing insights on life in South Africa and offering her followers a unique perspective on the country she now calls home.
