"I did not have much money then, but I trusted God that everything would be okay. So I would take screenshots of my dream houses. So in November 2021, I contacted a friend of mine and told him of my plan to build a house and he helped me come up with a plan," he said.
Muthuri said he chose affordable building materials for his new house and devised building stages that fit his budget.
"I had a good plan and strategy, and I think it was how I made it to build the house," he added.
Muthuri thanks wife
The man, who is also pursuing a Master's Degree from the University of Nairobi, also thanked his wife for supporting him during the process.
"I have got a very supportive wife and kids. They have been a pillar of strength as I built the house. Whenever I went down on cash, she always chipped in and helped out," he said.
He encouraged average-income earners to pursue their dreams of owning a house.
"I thank God, and I would like to tell you that there is power in starting. I cannot tell you where I got all the money needed for the house, but somehow, I did it. Building a house as an average income earner is possible with proper planning and budgeting," he said, saying the house has so far cost him R417k
