Expert on financial gestures and relationship dynamics

While speaking to Briefly News, certified relationship expert Paula Quinsee shared insights on how financial gestures influence the dynamics between partners by saying:

"When expressions of love are monetary (e.g. buying gifts, covering expenses, shared investments), it can be liberating and generous, but sometimes it can also have underlying agendas. This behaviour may signal deeper issues such as commitment and insecurities, and can also set unrealistic expectations if used excessively or disproportionately, especially among younger couples with limited financial resilience."

She added that such acts of generosity strengthen relationships, but they can also create unrealistic expectations and pressure, especially for younger couples.

"It’s important for couples to have honest conversations right in the beginning stages of their relationship about money values, budgets, and boundaries to ensure any form of financial generosity enhances their bond rather than creating pressure or dependency."

Why are women attracted to men with money?

According to Psychology Today, women often prefer dating men with money due to both evolutionary and social factors. Evolutionary psychology suggests that women may be drawn to partners who can provide resources, as this historically increased the survival chances of their offspring. Financial stability signals security, which can be an attractive trait when considering long-term relationships.

Social role theory also plays a part, as traditional societal norms have often positioned men as providers. This can influence women’s preferences, as partnering with someone financially secure may offer access to resources and social stability.

However, these tendencies are not universal. Personal values, cultural context, education, and individual experiences also shape how much importance a woman places on a partner’s wealth.
