WESTERN CAPE — South Africans are mourning the deaths of two teenagers, who were killed in the Marcus Garvey area of Philippi East, Cape Town.

The deceased were among six teenagers who were shot on Saturday, 12 September 2026. The other four victims were critically wounded after unknown gunmen opened fire on the group.

Police spokesperson Constable Ndakhe Gwala confirmed that all six victims are aged 16. The shooting occurred along Road 4 and Road 7, with two of the victims pronounced dead at the scene.

The motive for the attack is a subject of police investigation, and no arrests have been made. Authorities are actively searching for the two suspects believed to have carried out the attack, and the motive remains under investigation.

This is not the first mass shooting to strike the Marcus Garvey area this year. In July, a separate attack in the same neighbourhood claimed the lives of four people aged between 17 and 20.
