WESTERN CAPE — Cape Town police are appealing for public information after a man was found burnt to death in Delft on the Cape Flats on 24 September 2026, in what is suspected to be a mob justice killing.
Officers at the Delft SAPS Community Centre were alerted to a body lying in an open field behind Striker in the area. Police spokesperson FC van Wyk confirmed the body was burnt beyond recognition, with a burnt tyre discovered on top of it.
"The body was burnt beyond recognition. There was a burnt tyre on top of the body. A postmortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death, race and gender. Circumstances surrounding this incident are under investigation," van Wyk said.

According to several posts, residents at the scene claimed the deceased was known in the area for allegedly stealing and robbing community members. They alleged that a group caught the man and set him alight, though police have not confirmed these accounts.
