KWAZULU-NATAL — King Misuzulu kaZwelithini has publicly stated that he hopes he will not be summoned to appear before the Madlanga Commission, sparking a wave of reactions online.
The Zulu monarch made the remarks during a formal ceremonial address at King Zwelithini Stadium in Umlazi, south of Durban, on 24 September 2026.
Speaking directly to his subjects during the Heritage Day gathering, the Zulu monarch said the Commission had become unavoidable viewing.

"I am done with this Madlanga Commission. I don't even know if you've turned on the TV; it's the only thing playing over there," he said.
"I am praying that they don't call me," he added.
The king did not elaborate on why he believed the Commission might have reason to call him, leaving the remark open to interpretation.
King urges public to report wildlife poachers
Separate from the Commission remarks, King Misuzulu used the address to call on Zulu communities to help protect the country's wildlife heritage. He described rhinos and elephants as precious national assets and urged members of the public to report anyone they suspect of involvement in poaching activities.
"If there are people you know who are involved in that activity, go and report them to the police. But do not be surprised if the police themselves are involved in it," he added.
