Mmabatho attended Greenside High School where she further developed an interest in fashion. After graduating from Greenside High School, she enrolled at the University of South Africa for Audiovisual multimedia course.

After completing her high school studies, Mmabatho Montsho launched her very first label Black Olive Designs. She worked collaboratively with one of her close high school friends to grow the business by designing clothes and selling them at B&B Rooftop market. It was a breakthrough in 2004 when their line earned public recognition at the South African fashion week.
Mmabatho first appeared as a guest actress on SABC in 2006 and later formed a part of Rhythm City at e.tv in 2007. Within the same year, Montsho appeared in the drama M-Net drama series Jacob’s Cross acting as Lerato, a materialistic wife to the main character Jacob. Her early success earned her nominations for acting awards which include Style Award and Awesome Women of 2007.
