After almost three years, the South African Police Service (SAPS) has made a significant breakthrough in the DJ Sumbody murder case. The police have arrested a Gauteng businessman in connection with the assassination of producer and businessman DJ Sumbody. This follows reports that police were investigating a possible link between DJ Sumbody’s murder and Tebogo Thobejane’s failed assassination.
Renowned Pretoria producer and businessman Oupa John Sefoka, popularly known as DJ Sumbody, was gunned down in a hail of bullets in Woodmead, Johannesburg, on 20 November 2022. Police reportedly made a breakthrough in the case and arrested a businessman in connection with DJ Sumbody’s murder.
Who has been arrested for killing DJ Sumbody?
On Monday, 21 July 2025, entertainment and current affairs blogger MDN News shared an update that a businessman had been arrested in connection with DJ Sumbody’s murder. IOL also reported that a senior police officer had confirmed that a businessman was arrested at his Sandton home in connection with DJ Sumbody’s murder.

News24 identified the businessman as Katiso “KT” Molefe. The publication reported that Molefe was arrested for DJ Sumbody’s murder while on bail for an unrelated assassination case. Along with alleged hitmen Michael Pule Tau, Musa Kekana and Tiego Floyd Mabusela, Molefe is waiting to go on trial for masterminding the assassination of Vereeniging engineer Armand Swart in April 2023.
The alleged hitmen, Musa Kekana and Tiego Floyd Mabusela, are also on trial for the attempted murder of actress and socialite Tebogo Thobejane, which was orchestrated by her ex-boyfriend Vusimusi “Cat” Matlala.
The motive behind DJ Sumbody’s murder remains unclear, but reports indicate that police are investigating possible links to his business dealings and alleged underworld connections.

What did General Mkhwanazi say about DJ Sumbody's murder?
Briefly News reported that General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi's press briefing on Sunday, 6 July 2025, ruffled some feathers.
During the press briefing, General Mkhwanazi indicated that firearms linked to DJ Sumbody's murder had been seized.
While he did not mention the late artist by name, General Mkhwanazi hinted that DJ Sumbody was killed using the same weapons that were used in the murder of engineer Armand Swart. The engineer was killed after the company he worked for unearthed corruption related to Transnet and tenders.
