Pam Andrews gets candid about her battle with anxiety

The former Rhythm City actress' life is not all fun and games. She has also been dealing with a lot behind closed doors. Although she has vowed never to return to acting again, Pam is still dealing with social anxiety.

Andrews revealed in a video shared on her Instagram page that she has had to decline several interview offers since her return to South Africa because of the extreme anxiety she suffers. She said:

"Since I've been back to South Africa, I've been asked to do a few interviews, and sadly, I had to decline most of them because of my social anxiety, and I guess I now suffer from PMD, which is a hormone disorder and also a complex PTSD, which is like you know anxiety and all this."

Speaking to Briefly News journalist Tayananiswa Zvikaramba, clinical psychologist Michele Naude explained how PTSD and social anxiety can seriously affect one's ability to function.

Naude said people with PTSD can be easily triggered and may react in extreme ways, which can make their reactions seem exaggerated or unexpected.

"Functioning will be compromised by PTSD and social anxiety. Individuals experiencing PTSD are often sensitive to triggers, which can prompt them to respond in one of three ways: fight, flight, or freeze. Individuals may explode or implode or simply shut down completely. It can result in exaggerated reactions in an interview situation. Individuals with social anxiety will find high-pressure media interviews stressful, resulting in hesitation, stammering, repetition, or a freeze response. Individuals experiencing social anxiety often perceive presentations and interviews as particularly stressful situations, which may lead them to withdraw or isolate themselves when faced with significant pressure," Naude shared.
