Former Bafana Bafana star Matthew Booth and his partner Bongani Mthombeni are expecting their first child together. Bongani announced on social media with videos of her growing baby bump and a picture of three pairs of sneakers, one for a baby.

The news of their pregnancy has left Mzansi both shocked and talking, as many were stunned to see how their relationship has flourished and grown stronger despite the explosive cheating scandal that initially brought them into the spotlight for the wrong reasons.

Beyond the headlines, Bongani is an accomplished professional in her own right. She holds a Master's degree in Chemical Engineering from the University of Cape Town. She serves as director at ATANA, formerly known as Royal Haskoning DHV, a project management consultancy firm headquartered in the Netherlands. The company has ties with South Africa's Department of Transport, particularly in the Western Cape.

Her work centres on transport and infrastructure development, spanning road, rail, maritime transport, sustainable mobility and large infrastructure projects.

In February 2026, she was elected Vice President of the South African Road Federation, adding another title to her already impressive resume.

On a personal level, Bongani describes herself as a "fitness fanatic" on her Instagram profile, regularly sharing workout footage alongside her "life partner," Booth.

From scandal to romance

The couple's relationship has had quite the journey. In 2022, Matthew's then-wife, former model Sonia, went public with allegations of an affair between the two, in what became widely known as the "cheesecake scandal." Both Matthew and Bongani, who were married to other people at the time, denied the claims. However, by late 2023, they had gone public as a couple.

Bongani was married to and later divorced UCT professor Klaus Moller in 2023, just months before she and Matthew stepped out officially as a pair.
