Zakes Bantwini and his Grammy were the last things Nota Baloyi wanted to talk about when the two came face to face. A video shared on 22 September 2026 showed the pair sharing a laugh, with Zakes joking that he had asked Nota to repeat everything he had said about him.
The music critic apparently had very little to say, and both men ended up laughing it off. Zakes made a point of telling fans "it's all love this side," signalling that there was no bad blood between them.
The moment landed differently for those who had followed Nota's online commentary. He had previously taken aim at Zakes in the Afro-tech space, going as far as calling the Grammy-winning track Bayethe "nonsense" and questioning his credibility within the genre. Seeing Nota laugh rather than stand his ground struck many as telling.

Shimza, who watched the clip from the sidelines, found the whole thing deeply amusing and had his own joke to add. He said he also couldn't wait to run into Nota in person, except his agenda would be slightly different.
"I can't wait to meet him in person; I want to search his pockets."
The quip was a pointed reference to their long-running legal dispute. Shimza had sued Nota for defamation, and the High Court ruled in his favour, ordering Nota to pay R200,000 in damages plus legal costs.
Nota made partial payments totalling around R87,500, but failed to settle the remaining balance and legal fees. Because the full amount was never paid, Shimza's legal team obtained a writ of execution to attach and seize Nota's assets to recover what was still owed.
In a follow-up video, Shimza eventually bumped into Nota, who rode in the back of a car. He approached the vehicle and asked, "Let me search your pockets," to which Nota complied by turning his empty pockets inside out while the two shared a laugh.
Nota Baloyi's track record in court
This is not the only case that has followed Nota because of his social media activity. He is also fighting a defamation lawsuit brought by Black Coffee, stemming from posts on X in which he accused the DJ of corruption and criminal conduct.
After months of resisting a court order to apologise and remove the posts, Nota faced a contempt of court application, with Black Coffee's legal team pushing for a 60-day jail sentence.
Threatened with imprisonment following an interlocutory hearing, Nota eventually relented and issued an apology.
Throughout all of it, Shimza has kept himself firmly in the conversation, consistently calling out Nota for making claims he is unable to support either with evidence or, as it now appears, with his finances.
