Is Tyler Childers gay? All about his sexuality and love life

Tyler Childers expressed his support for same-sex marriage in the music video for his hit In Your Love. The clip depicts the love story of two gay male coal miners in 1950s Kentucky. Speaking with NPR's Ann Powers in July 2023, he shared the inspiration behind the video, saying:

I did this to honour my cousin, who, growing up, was like my big brother. He taught me so much about music and was my first harsh critic. But when he graduated from Northern Kentucky, he moved to Chicago and never looked back. I later understood why.

Insights into the gay love story in Tyler Childers' In Your Love music video

In an August 2023 interview with Rolling Stone, Silas House revealed the reason he took up Tyler's proposition to write the storyline for his hit song, stating:

I thought this would be an incredible representation for members of the LGBTQ community who have never felt seen by the country music genre.

Directed by Bryan Schlam, the music video narrates the love story of Jasper and Matthew, portrayed by queer actors James Scully and Colton Haynes.

Tyler Childers is a strong supporter of the LGBTQ community

During the interview with NPR, Silas House spoke fondly about Childers, clarifying that the music video was based on human experiences rather than political stories.

What makes Tyler a great musician is his empathy. He decided to tell a story that many would term "controversial" just because he has friends and family who belong to the LGBTQ community.

James Scully told Rolling Stone:

In an era where topics surrounding same sex romance are watered down, Tyler decided to use his influence to fix things. I only know a few people who can do that.

Tyler and May met in 2013 when they were both 23, after the former took a job on a Kentucky farm in the same area where the latter was doing cleaning chores to raise her college fees. In 2018, Childers told The Chicago Tribune of their first encounter:

I met an angel (Senora) while working for a 65-year-old man. It was love at first sight.

In a 2021 interview with The Daily Yonder, May shared that she asked Tyler to move in after dating for about one month.

I had just graduated from Berea College and landed a job in West Virginia. When I asked Tyler to move in with me, he did not hesitate.

The musical couple married in 2015 and announced their pregnancy via a maternity photo shoot on Instagram in July 2022.
