They revealed during their April 2021 appearance on the 'From Queer to Eternity' podcast that they started exploring their identity when they were teenagers. They hope to see more queer actors taking on major roles in film and television.
In their August 2025 interview with PinkNews, Luyanda shared that they had a great experience on the Wednesday set as a queer actor. They also said that many productions are trying to be accommodating and inclusive.
When you've got queer folk at the helm of a project, it's so refreshing to just walk into a space and you don't have to do that initial dance of 'these are my pronouns.' There's a level of care that's very difficult to create on a massive multi-million dollar set. It's not impossible, but it's tough.
