Hundreds of people attended an anti-LGBTQ rally Sunday in Istanbul, answering a call from dozens of conservative associations, an AFP photographer reported. Bearing banners with slogans such as "protect your family and your generation", participants urged a ban on associations upholding the rights of gay and transgender people, whose own rallies have been banned in recent years.

Fiona strengthened into a hurricane on Sunday as it barreled down on the US island territory of Puerto Rico, which has been devastated by previous storms, the National Hurricane Center said. Puerto Rico and part of the Dominican Republic -- an island nation located to its west -- are under a hurricane warning.

Steven Spielberg's deeply personal new movie "The Fabelmans" secured its position as an early Oscars frontrunner Sunday by winning the top prize at the Toronto International Film festival. "This is the most personal film I've made and the warm reception from everyone in Toronto made my first visit to TIFF so intimate and personal for me and my entire 'Fabelman' family."
