The client would hack to make three payments before they could move into the fixer-upper. The home is said to be located in a posh suburb, but its structure proved otherwise.

SA outraged by shabby rental property in Green Point
Maki shared unappealing pictures of the home and outraged many people. The house resembled a standard RDP house from the townships. The paint was worn out, and the yard was made of slabs, wood, and metal bars.

The window frames matched the outdated furniture, as most homes have aluminium frames. The house follows an open-plan design where everything is in one space.
The bed, fridge, and dining area took over the bigger square of the house, while the only other room was the toilet, which had chipped walls and a toilet pot with no lid.
The house looked underdeveloped and could be a desperate person’s last resort. Maki explained the listing details:
“Rental Property in Green Point. Open plan house with toilet to rent in Greenpoint for R2000. The deposit is R2000 and a once-off fee of R2000. It will be on the 1st of September.”
- Rent: R2000
- Deposit: R2000
- Admin fee: R2000

Speaking to Briefly News writer, Nerissa Naidoo, entrepreneur Rajesperi Naidoo discussed why a building should never be rented out underdeveloped. She stated:
"Renting out an underdeveloped building sends the wrong message about the landlord’s professionalism and standards. In the property leasing industry, first impressions matter. When a building looks incomplete or poorly maintained, it not only turns away potential tenants but also damages the landlord’s credibility in the long run."
"People are unlikely to settle in homes or commercial spaces that feel unfinished or unsafe. This creates a constant turnover of tenants, higher maintenance costs, and lost income. Investing in proper development and upkeep before renting doesn’t just attract quality tenants, it also protects the reputation and long-term success of your property business."
