The lottery operator shared the latest details regarding a lotto player who bought tickets in Johannesburg, Mayfield. Many people became invested in whether the lottery player would lose their big cash prize.

In a post on X, the Lotto announced that the person who won R2.2 million finally claimed their prize with mere days left from expiry. A lotto player in Johannesburg claimed the millions set to expire per Ithuba rules that the cash prize will expire if the winner does not claim it within 365 days. The lotto winner only had until 12 November 2025 to collect their winnings.

Some people were anticipating that the lotto player would miss claiming more than R2 million. Many people shed their suspicions, fuelled by the speculations of corruption in the National Lottery Commission. The organisation was investigated for fraudulent activities involving public figures. Some celebrities faced accusations of unjust enrichment, allegedly benefiting from funds associated with the lottery.
