CRADOCK - A five-year-old boy went through a horrifying experience after being locked in a classroom and left there for the whole weekend.

The boy's mother, Disedo Somatamba, was puzzled when her son did not come home on Friday. The family went to the police to report her son missing and the Karoo community was alerted about the missing child.

Somatamba called a teacher and checked if they perhaps locked her son in the classroom, but the teacher said she was the last person to leave and there was no one else there, reports TimesLIVE.

The police and the mother asked the teacher to go to the school and have a closer look, but she returned and said he was not there.

On Monday, the little boy's mother and a detective went to the school and asked for access to the CCTV footage, but it was not working. During assembly, a teacher came running and screaming that the little boy had been found.

Missing five-year-old boy was found in a bad state

According to the Daily Maverick, Masonwabe was found naked with paint over his head in one of the classrooms.

The child's relative said he was not in a good state and had to be airlifted to Dora Nginza Hospital in Nelson Mandela Bay for further treatment. The circumstances around how he ended up in the classroom are still unclear.

Briefly News previously reported that community members in Soweto made horrifying discoveries in two separate locations on Thursday, 20 April.

Two boys aged five and six years old were discovered murdered in the south Johannesburg township.

The children were allegedly seen playing together on Wednesday, 19 April, in the street near their homes when they went missing.
