ROODEPOORT, JOHANNESBURG — The Investigating Officer (IO) who was in charge of probing the murder of Jayden-Lee Meek, who was found dead on 11 May 2025, said that it would not be a good idea to release his mother, Tiffany, on bail.
Sergeant Linda Duma appeared before the Roodepoort Magistrate's Court on 22 July 2025 for Tiffany Meek's bail hearing. Meek was arrested after she was charged with murdering Jayden-Lee, defeating the ends of justice, and obstructing justice.
Investigative officer discourages bail
Duma said that releasing Tiffany on bail could result in public unrest. He noted that the community was furious and was likely to take the law into their own hands. He said that he feared for her safety and believed that the community would harm her.

Duma said that the public's trust in the police force is already low, and people are blaming the police for not delivering justice. He said seeing her walk freely may anger them.
Meek argues for bail
Meek, in her bail application, argued that she was not a flight risk. She said in her affidavit that she poses no danger to society and is the sole breadwinner, supporting her mother and brother. The court, however, heard that her original affidavit contained inconsistencies.
She claimed that Jayden-Lee's school uniform and bag were found missing, despite photos taken during the investigation, which showed that the allegedly missing items were found in her house.
