What did IPUSA say?

The union claims that Masemola’s conduct extends beyond his dispute with Deputy National Commissioner for Crime Detection, Shadrack Sibiya. IPUSA is questioning Masemola's fitness to lead.

The union said that the concerns around Masemola go beyond General Sibiya. It stated that the concerns relate to other issues where he has allegedly failed to act in line with his legal responsibilities. The union suggested that it may now be time for South Africans to approach the president to consider establishing a commission under Section 9, Subsection 1 of the Police Act.

Alleged warrant of arrest for Masemola

According to IOL, Masemola was aware of a warrant of arrest issued against him. In July, EFF president Julius Malema claimed that a warrant had been issued, but said the arrest was delayed following allegations made by KwaZulu-Natal Police Commissioner General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi on 6 July 2025.

The Investigating Directorate Against Corruption has denied that National Commissioner General Fannie Masemola is under investigation or that an arrest warrant has been issued against him.
