Before the split, the marriage had yielded four children; three sons and their only daughter. The two lost their daughter Zinathi Nciza in through a tragic road accident that almost claimed Thembinkosi's mother.
Zinathi Nciza succumbed to the accident that occurred on 7th December 2009. Her death was a big blow to her family, especially her mother. Her bold smile was replaced with sadness. She even lost a reasonable amount of weight and sadness was the only language that she knew. In an interview that the latter did a year after the tragic death of her baby, the singer expressed her loss in her heart-wrenching message saying; “We have made our peace with losing our little princess. Despite the painful loss of their daughter, Nhlanhla Mafu and her family have been tightly knitted. They have not shown any signs of marital issues. In fact, about two years ago, Nhlanhla Mafu and her husband hosted a party at their home, to celebrate their thirteenth marriage anniversary. On 20th June 2019, Nhlanhla Mafu Instagram was the centre of attraction for most people, especially after the artist took to her Instagram page to affirm that there was trouble in paradise and that she and her husband had separated. To set the record straight, she posted a picture of herself and her husband. The message in the caption said it all. It read; “After almost 15 years of our strong bond of marriage, my husband TK Nciza and I have come to a tough but amicable decision to bring an end to our union”.
She went further to state that she was grateful for the support that TK had given her and for the time they were married and for helping her raise their children.
To affirm that there was no bad blood between them, she stated; "We shall remain on good terms and continue our endeavor to be great and exemplary parents to our children,"
