American rapper Cardi B is facing a new lawsuit over an incident that happened two years ago. The Grammy Award winner is being sued by a woman who claims Cardi B hit her with a microphone during a day party in Las Vegas in 2023.

TMZ reports that the incident occurred during Cardi's performance at Drai's Beachclub. It was a hot day, and the rapper had reportedly encouraged the audience to throw water at her to help cool down. Things took a turn when Cardi B launched her microphone into the crowd, hitting a woman who claims she was following the rapper's instructions.

Why is Cardi B being sued?

The woman claims she was one of the several audience members who threw water. A video of the incident was widely circulated online, showing the mother of three enjoying the water toss before she abruptly threw the microphone into the crowd.

Jane Doe is now suing Cardi B for assault, battery, negligence, and more. Her lawyer, Cierra N. Norris, is expected to share more details of the lawsuit during a press conference in Las Vegas on Thursday, 24 July 2025. Cardi B and her representatives were reportedly unreachable for comment.

At the time, police investigated the incident, but the Outside rapper wasn’t charged. In her lawsuit, Jane Doe claims the emotional trauma worsened after the microphone involved in the incident was auctioned for $99,000. The auctioneer indicated that the proceeds from the auction would be donated to two charities, the Wounded Warrior Project and Friendship Circle Las Vegas.

Netizens react after fan sues Cardi B for assault

After TMZ shared the update on Instagram, netizens weighed in on the lawsuit. Several netizens questioned the validity of the woman's lawsuit, given that she had thrown water at Cardi B first.

Here are some of the reactions:

_puncous_ said:

“Curious what’s going to happen because I’m sure the lady threw a drink or something at her first.”

girlnamedamira asked:

“Ya’ll do know it was the wrong person she hit in the crowd, right?”

mathiasbjoernhof claimed:

“The majority of you people are not getting the facts right here. In July 2023, during a concert in Las Vegas, Cardi B threw a microphone into the crowd after someone splashed a drink on her. The mic accidentally hit the wrong person.”

mrs.oluwole3 joked:

“Do you guys even sleep 😂😂😂 smh 🤦🏾‍♀️ well I would sue too. She hit the wrong person. So yeah. I’m suing too 😂😂”
