After Hollywood strike, Broadway staves off industrial action

A tentative agreement was reached in New York Thursday to avert a strike that threatened to shut most Broadway shows, as Hollywood remains on hold over historic industrial action. The strike threat came as the first industry-wide walkout in more than 60 years has effectively shut down Hollywood, America's giant movie and television business.

Google is working with news publishers to design a new AI-backed tool to help journalists report and write their stories, the company said on Thursday. A Google spokeswoman said in a statement that "in partnership with news publishers, especially smaller publishers, we're in the earliest stages of exploring ideas to potentially provide AI-enabled tools to help their journalists with their work."

Customers shopping at Amazon's US-based Whole Foods grocery stores will be able to pay for items by hovering their palm over a scanner, much like shoppers already do with smartphones or credit cards. The service can also be found in several entertainment venues and airport shops, and is also being tested in some Starbucks cafes.
