During his time in the UK, he was inspired by stories of countrymen who had risen from grass to grace. Due to the nature of his job, he had a lot of free time to read inspirational stories, which instilled a longing to succeed.

Although his idea was present, he could not afford it initially because his earnings were insufficient.

How did Yasin achieve his dream?

Bakaluba reveals that many people abroad struggle financially because taxes and the cost of living are high.

"I have seen many people get good jobs, get loans which capture them, and they end up taking their lives," he said.

Yasin decided to minimise his expenses and save whatever he could to achieve his dreams.

After getting his land title, he slowly developed his 50-by-100-foot plot and built six two-room rental units.

“I built in stages and completed them in about 18 months. Materials and labour were not as expensive as they are today,” he recalled.

The rentals fetched him R487 each month, which his tenants deposited into an account.

The following year, he withdrew R34k, topped up his savings and bought another plot on which he built eight rental units.

“My father inspired me greatly. I grew up seeing him buy land and develop it slowly. He was never in a rush,” Yasin narrated.
