An unexpected storm hit with high winds, and swirling debris which many Wynberg residents described as resembling a tornado. The storm left residents shaken.

Western Cape Premier Alan Winde said they were considering declaring a state of disaster as severe weather batters the province, as schools in the region are closed.

Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis intends to initiate legal proceedings aimed at removing "illegal occupants" who have built homes atop municipal infrastructure.

Affected areas include the Metro, Cape Winelands, and Overberg districts, with learner transport services suspended. Schools in the West Coast will remain open.

The community of Newton Village outside Paarl has been urged to evacuate as three dams are overflowing due to heavy rains, and residents were devastated.

A level 8 weather warning has been issued in the Western Cape as 2 more cold fronts land. It follows the persistent bad weather in parts of the province.

More than 7,000 homes and about 20 schools were severely damaged by recent torrential rains, causing R1.3 billion in damage across six district municipalities.

All mountain passes in the Eastern Cape closed due to heavy snowfall have reopened. However, roads remain wet and slippery, posing ongoing hazards to motorists.

It has been a winter 'wonderland' for some and chaos for others as snowfall continued in parts of the country on Tuesday including the Free State and Northen Cape.
