A young man captured the attention of social media after sharing a video containing invaluable study advice.

The clip, shared by TikTok user @timstudyfetch, gained massive views, likes, and comments from viewers who showed gratitude and an outpour of admiration.

The young man, who scored seven distinctions in Grade 12, shared that he did not study hard but used a few different study methods that worked well for him. For English, he used the Feynman technique, which he explained as choosing a concept and oversimplifying it. The goal is to explain it to a child and then go back to the textbook to fill in the gaps. For Maths and Physics, he said he would not read the textbook but would go on YouTube, search for the concept, and learn it from the videos.

Studying smart and not hard

He also gave a shout-out to a YouTube channel called Kevin, adding that he would then do past papers many times until he could no longer do it. He also shared that for History, which was his best mark, he used the SQ3R method, calling it simple and promising to explain it in a video to be shared later. For Biology, he said he used a technique called Active Recall, where he would take all his notes and put them into an app that converted them into approximately 100 flashcards.

He then would go through the flash cards every week for about five weeks leading up to the exam. For Chemistry, he used Active Recall for the flash cards for all the definitions, and for the calculations, he used the same method as Maths, YouTube and past papers. He also noted that for Afrikaans, he was saved by a YouTube channel called Juf Nagel.
