Childhood and education
Virginia grew up in Bendigo, Victoria, Australia. Virginia Trioli parents are white, and not much is known about them and her upbringing.
As a teenager, she attended the Donvale High School, after which she joined La Trobe University. Here is where she received an Arts degree; her major was cinema. She graduated with honours. Later on, she enrolled in the New York University to pursue a postgraduate degree; unfortunately, she dropped out of the program.
Career and professional life
Her professional life began as a publicist for a book publisher based in Victoria. She then joined the Victorian Ethnic Affairs Commission and soon after began at The Age even becoming president of The Age's chapter of the union; now referred to as the Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance, but at that time, it was the Australian Journalists Association.
While she was working as a reporter at The Age, she tried her luck to get a postgraduate degree but then dropped out. She juggled several careers in this period, including part-time work as a columnist for the Packer Organisation in the popular magazine The Bulletin. This all happened in the 90s'.

Work as a radio presenter
In 2001, she branched into radio, working as a presenter for 774 ABC Melbourne in the afternoons. This seemed like a stellar career move after receiving a Walkley Award following a fantastic interview with the former minister of defence Peter Reith.
Radio presenting in Sydney
After working in Melbourne, she went to Sydney to host Mornings with Virginia Trioli on the popular station 702 ABC Sydney, taking the role of Sally Loane. She pushed on for two years at this job before she decided to quit in order to put more energy into her TV career. While on the radio, she also used to comment on several other ABC TV programs as well as host the Sunday Arts.
TV career
In 2007, ABC announced that Virginia would be the next host of Friday's ABC Lateline news and current affairs section; she replaced Maxine McKew in this role. She also stood in for Tony Jones in the ABC program Q&A whenever he was unavailable.
The following year, in 2008, she went back to Melbourne to begin co-hosting a morning show called News Breakfast together with Barrie Cassidy, Joe O'Brien, Vanessa O'Hanlon, and Paul Kennedy.

The following year in 2009, she remained a host in the morning show and permanently replaced Cassidy. She jumped around quite a bit because, in 2010, she became a newscaster on ABC's News 24.
Virginia, the author
She wrote a book Generation F: Why we still struggle with sex and power, over 25 years ago as the response to a scandal where the Master of Ormond College at the University of Melbourne had been acquitted after two students raised sexual assault complaints against him.
In the book, Virginia offers an insightful look at the need for feminism. She explores how the situation affected and angered her and how women in the workplace are often harassed and abused but just sweep it under the rug. It was an essential book then, and it still applies today.
